Polo G40 Statistics:

The Polo G40 is an equal to any hothatch current available it is comparible to all GTI's currenty available. With a blistering 1.3litre supercharged engine allowing it to do 0-60 in a time of 7.9 seconds in the dry and capable of doing over 120 mph. This means it is faster than the original hothatch the VW Golf GTI and it's 16valve predecessor. The Polo G40 despite being made in the late 80's/early 90's can still hold its own with even the most modern hothatch for example the Renault Clio 16v. This is due to the fact that G40 engine despite only producing 113bhp(at 6200 rpm) produces a whole host of torque low down the rev. scale(130lb/sq.ft at 3800 rpm) giving it a distinct advantage or head start against all 16 valve engines which have their power stacked at the top of the rev. scale(generally above 5000 rpm) and left behind until they get the engine wound round. It also means that precise gear changes are needed in the 16 valves in order to keep them in the power band.

G40 - The G stands for the shape of the supercharger used, the G-lader specification supercharger whilst the 40 is the diameter of the supercharger in mm.

                Swire Renshaw Super Coupe Cup:

There are also track racing events for Polo G40's where they race against cars with similiar power to weight ratio's such as Renault 5 GT Turbo's and Honda CRX's. Because of the Polo G40's acceleration advantage (due to low down torque) the races have to be started with a rolling start and the Renault 5 GT Turbo's are allowed to run Group A carburetta's and uprated boost in order to keep their competitiveness up to rival the VW Polo G40 and despite this the Super Coupe Cup was still won by a Polo G40 this year with a race to spare.
